The Finn Pathologists Microbiology department is made up of a team of highly motivated and dedicated laboratory technicians who have experience of identifying pathogens in companion animals, farmed animals, equines and exotics.
Head of Microbiology
Susan graduated from Leicester University in 2002 with a BSc Hons in Biological Sciences (Physiology). She joined Finn pathologists as a microbiology laboratory technician in 2006. She undertook a graduate certificate in biomedical science via distance learning whilst at Finn Pathologists and gained a great deal of knowledge about all disciplines of biomedical science.
Her main interest remained with microbiology and was promoted to head up the microbiology department in 2010. Since 2010 the department has grown by almost 250% and staffing of microbiology has doubled. This has involved the setting up of a larger laboratory and training of new staff. ‘The most rewarding part of my role is that I get to see technicians develop in both knowledge and confidence to ensure that the needs of clients are meet to a high standard. ‘ Microbiology is still heavily reliant on technicians and although automation is out there it cannot replace the need for the knowledge base of highly experienced technicians. She is also a licentiate member of the institute of biomedical science.
