Petra graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover, Germany in 1998. Prior to studying Veterinary medicine she was a trained Veterinary Nurse and Veterinary Laboratory technician. During her veterinary studies she became very interested in exotic and wildlife species and took up additional courses at the university. During her studies she spent over six months at zoological collections in Germany and the USA including externships at San Diego Zoo, St. Louis Zoo and Lincoln Park Zoo. After graduating she stayed at the university working in fish microbiology and at the internal bird clinic. In October 1999 she went on to the MSC Wild Animal Health course at London Zoo and the RVC. For six years afterwards she worked as a pathologist at Greendale Veterinary Laboratories where she performed numerous post mortems (domestic species, exotics and forensic cases) and became proficient in reading exotic animal haematology as well as advising clients and commenting on reports.
Petra joined Finn Pathologists in September 2007 as a clinical pathologist and in order to build up her cytology and histology skills.
She is author of many papers and presentation and is on the editorial board of Veterinary Times and Veterinary Record.
Petra is a member of AAV, BSAVA, BVZS and EAZWV
