David Shearer qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1984 where he was medicine intern until 1985 and during which time he developed an interest in dermatology. He was in mixed practice in Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire for several years before working at the University of Bristol Veterinary School from 1988-1998. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Dermatology in 1990 and a PhD on aspects of canine skin immunology from The University of Bristol in 1995.
Dr Shearer has professional interests in cutaneous immunology, microbiology ectoparasites and dermatohistopathology. He has presented papers at national and international congresses on dermatology and dermatohistopathology, coauthored a textbook of veterinary ectoparasites and published papers on skin immunology and dermatology. He is a RCVS advisor for the CertVD and currently works as a referral clinical dermatologist for Mill House Referrals, Kings Lynn and a diagnostic pathologist and dermatopathologist for both Finn Pathologists and Rest Associates in East Anglia.
