Ann qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Ontario Veterinary College, Canada, in
1989. She worked in Canada for three years in exotic pet and small animal practice
before starting a residency program in anatomic pathology at the Western College of
Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon, Canada. This culminated in 1995 in a Master’s degree
with a research focus on lesions and cytology of the air sac in the mallard duck.
She remained in Saskatoon to teach for two more years before moving to the USA to
pursue an advanced residency in zoological pathology at the University of Madison-
Wisconsin in conjunction with Milwaukee County Zoo. Upon completion, she came to
the UK, first lecturing at the Royal Veterinary College, where she became a diplomate
of the Royal College of Pathologists, specializing in avian disease, and of the American
College of Veterinary Pathologists. She then accepted a position as the pathologist for
the Zoological Society of London, where she gained a wealth of experience in postmortem
examination of all animals from snails to elephants. Ann moved to diagnostic
histopathology in 2005 and has recently joined Finn Pathologists. Her professional
interests centre on diseases of wildlife and exotic animals. Outside work, she enjoys
birdwatching and the outdoors and is an avid backgammon player.
